Tamar and Towanda Braxton Chastised By Delta Pilot

An Instagram video uploaded by Towanda Braxton shows she and her sister, Tamar, being chastised by a Delta Airlines pilot on a weekend flight.

According to rumor, Tamar was on the plane, tipsy, and got into a brief verbal clash with a flight attendant the sisters thought was being rude and disrespectful. But it was the flight attendant who reportedly summoned the captain, and urged him to make the Braxtons deboard.

The sisters, who couldn’t afford to miss their flight due to a scheduled performance, sat quietly while the older White captain checked them.

Some have since accused the airline of engaging in what has become a national phenomena: profiling Black airline passengers on commercial flights, otherwise known as Flying While Black.

But some folks aren’t so sure Delta did anything wrong because its unclear what really happened between the sisters and the captain to prompt the captain to emerge from the cockpit to deliver his verbal karate chop on the Braxtons in the first place: the video starts after the captain was already standing in front of the ladies.

“My flight attendants work for me. If you get an instruction from a flight attendant, I need to know that you’re willing and able to do what you’re told to do”, the unidentified flight captain said.

But on social media, Towanda blamed it on racism.

“@tamarbraxton got ridiculed by a pilot for flying while black on Delta. Wow! I guess being a diamond and double million miler don’t matter… @delta Shame on you… #WhyArePeopleSoMad #flyingwhileblack #smh”

Atlanta-based Delta has promised to investigate the incident, and took the unusual step of addressing Towanda directly on Twitter.

Police reports were reportedly filed as a result of the incident.
