Atlanta Falcons Fans Question Why Matt Ryan Gets More Money While Julio Jones Doesn’t

Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones will not be reporting to training camp on Thursday, according to ESPN.

Jones seems intent on holding out unless he gets a reworked contract–in other words, more money.

In 2015, Jones received a a five-year, $71 million contract that earned him the #43 spot on Forbes’ list of highest-paid athletes. In the minds of many fans, Jones is the team’s most crucial player–topping even quarterback Matt Ryan, who became the NFL’s highest-paid player EVER when he got a $150 million contract extension back in May.

For perspective, Ryan took a bigger bag than other top-name quarterbacks such as Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, and Drew Brees–all of whom have won Super Bowls while Ryan has only appeared in one–a loss to Tom Brady and the New England Patriots last year.

Some fans say Jones is just being greedy while others can’t see any explanation for Ryan making double what Julio earns.

Falcons fans are now getting ready to panic.

The Atlanta Falcons already face an uphill battle in trying to become the first franchise to play in a Super Bowl hosted in its own city (Super Bowl 53 will be played here in Atlanta in February 2019), but without Jones fully on deck, that climb could be insurmountably tougher.
