Abortion Rights, Gay Marriage Could Be Overturned In “2-3 Years”?

United States Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy’s announcement yesterday that he is stepping down from the nation’s Highest Court caused panic in Democratic circles around the country.

That’s because Kennedy’s departure opens the door for President Donald Trump to replace Kennedy with a much more conservative judge who would empower the Court’s new clear rightward majority to take aim at a number of civil rights causes.

Those causes include affirmative action, voting rights, and the effort to halt mass incarceration, among several others, including fair housing.

Two other important rights could be completely overturned: abortion rights for women, and gay marriage, among other rights, for the nation’s LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer) community.

“It is quite likely that both rights will come to an end within two to three years: there are cases pending that would further limit each, and more will soon follow”, wrote The Daily Beast’s Jay Michaelson.

Added CNN’s  “Roe v. Wade (the 1973 Supreme Court case that led to abortion’s nationwide legalization) is doomed.”

Outrage from Democrats and liberals was clear, and Twitter was the place for them to hit the panic button:

President Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell have said they will seat a new Justice in the Fall.
